Episode Notes

CORE TOPICS + DETAILS:

[0:10] -- Combatting “Don’t Say Gay”

A poignant TV ad with a purpose

AHF just launched a 30-second TV ad urging Ohio state legislators to stand against hate and reject harmful legislation targeting LGBTQ+ students, parents, and their families. The TV spot shows students disappearing from school and family portraits was prompted by Ohio House Bill 616, a bill modeled after Florida's notorious Don't Say Gay bill. The ad can be seen on CNN, MSNBC, Spectrum News and Fox News in the Columbus market.

[0:57] -- Monkeypox: What to Know

Information combats confusion

AHF is sounding the alarm on the recent monkeypox outbreak, notably found at a higher rate among men who have sex with men. AHF has informed media outlets of the rapidly increasing monkeypox cases in Los Angeles County and the extremely limited vaccine doses available nationwide. AHF is now calling on the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to ramp up public education on the virus and its prevention. And the organization has proposed a six point plan to manage the spread.

[1:43] -- $100 Million to Provide Housing

Making an impact in Miami Dade County

AHF President Michael Weinstein and the Healthy Housing Foundation pledge $100 million to the development of affordable housing in Miami Dade County. The pledge was made during mayor Daniella Levine Cava's Building Blocks Housing Summit, named after the county's affordable housing program.

[2:16] -- Providing Free Plan B

Response to backward judgement

AHF has responded to the overturning of Roe V. Wade by providing free Plan B at any AHF pharmacy for patients, employees, and the community. Plan B is an emergency contraceptive that can be taken once by mouth within 72 hours after unprotected sex, a condom mishap during sex or an issue with birth control.

[3:04] -- How AHF Unwinds

Combatting burnout among employees

AHF employees work hard every day to fight for what's right, so the organization is launching a new staff initiative to incorporate more fun into work. Starting immediately, teams and departments will try a new activity together once every quarter. AHF encourages activities that are relaxing, creative and facilitate team bonding. Stay tuned for more details from your leaders about your upcoming outings.

Welcome to Inside Scoop Headlines. Your on-the-go listen for AHF’s top news! We’ll update you on current initiatives at the organization in five minutes or less.

First up, Don’t Say Gay bills. AHF just launched a 30-second TV ad urging Ohio state legislators to ‘Stand Against Hate’ and reject harmful legislation targeting LGBTQ+ students, parents, and their families.

The TV spot, which shows students “disappearing” from school and family portraits, was prompted by Ohio House Bill 616, a bill modeled after Florida’s notorious ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill.

The ad can be seen on CNN, MSNBC, Spectrum News, and FOX News in the Columbus market. It serves as a warning to all, that hateful government and school policies have the power to erase identities.

You can watch the ad on AHF’s YouTube homepage.

AHF is also sounding the alarm on the recent monkeypox outbreak, notably found at a higher rate among men who have sex with men.

After the World Health Organization reported viral DNA found in the semen of a handful of monkeypox patients in Italy and Germany, AHF urged the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to promote condom use.

In ongoing press teleconferences, AHF informs media outlets of the rapidly increasing Monkeypox cases in Los Angeles and the extremely limited vaccine doses available nationwide.

AHF is now calling on the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to ramp up public education on the virus and its prevention, and the organization has proposed a 6-point plan to manage the spread.

In other news, AHF President Michael Weinstein and the Healthy Housing Foundation pledged $100 million to the development of affordable housing in Miami-Dade county.

The pledge was made during Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s Building Blocks Housing Summit, named after the county’s affordable housing program.

$5 million of AHF’s $100 million pledge has been set aside for Cava’s Building Blocks program to combat the county’s affordable housing crisis.

The remaining funds will be distributed among other organizations working to get people housed.

AHF has responded to the overturning of Roe Vs. Wade by providing free Plan B at any AHF Pharmacy for patients, employees, and the community!

Plan B is an emergency contraceptive that can be taken once by mouth within 72 hours after unprotected sex, a condom mishap during sex, or an issue with birth control.

Plan B won't protect against HIV or any other sexually transmitted infections so it is important to be safe and get tested.

Remember, timing is critical, and Plan B should always be taken within 72 hours after having sex. If you need more information, talk to your local AHF pharmacist to find out if generic Plan B is right for you. No prescription is required to receive Plan B at an AHF pharmacy.

And last but not least, AHF is adding more fun to the equation.

AHF employees work hard every day to fight for what’s right, so the organization is launching a new staff initiative to incorporate more fun into work.

Starting immediately, teams and departments will try a new activity together once every quarter.

You could have dinner, go bowling, check out a museum, movie, or even a happy hour. More fun. More laughs. More memorable moments to be had with your team.

AHF encourages activities that are relaxing, creative, or facilitate team bonding.

Stay tuned for more details from your leaders about your upcoming outings.
